School holidays in Greater Sydney are a logistics project. They involve weather, distance, cost, energy levels and the reality that public spaces fill up quickly during peak weeks.

A few principles travel well across the basin. Pick anchors, the must-do days, and plan around them. Mix high-energy days with low-key ones. Keep at least one wet-weather option ready for each week.

It helps to think regionally. The harbour and beaches absorb a lot of demand during fine weather, while the Blue Mountains, Royal National Park and inland river towns are quieter alternatives that are still reachable in a day.

Our holiday coverage will lean on that practical framing rather than on lists of every possible activity.
