Tour de Cure's Step Out for Cancer brought a weekend fundraising route through some of Sydney's best-known sporting venues, with walkers and runners using Allianz Stadium, the Sydney Cricket Ground and Royal Randwick Racecourse as the frame for a cause-based morning out.
The event listing set the walk for Sunday 11 October from 9am to 12:30pm. The walking route covered six kilometres through Allianz Stadium and the SCG before continuing to Royal Randwick Racecourse. Runners had five-kilometre and 10-kilometre loop options at Royal Randwick, alongside a two-hour timed challenge for individuals and teams.
The finish line program was built as a festival rather than a bare finish chute, with live music, food trucks, family activities, brand activations and appearances linked to Sydney sporting teams. The listed teams included the South Sydney Rabbitohs, Sydney Sixers, Sydney FC Foundation and the GWS Giants.
Funds raised from Step Out for Cancer are directed to the Minderoo Children's Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Randwick, where researchers and clinicians work together on childhood cancer care and discovery. For local families, the geography is part of the story: the fundraiser uses major Sydney sport sites while pointing the proceeds back to a Randwick health precinct.
The safe public read is simple. This was a community fundraising event with a specific course, venue set, organiser and beneficiary. Attendance totals and fundraising results should wait for the organiser's post-event reporting, but the Sydney footprint and the health destination are already clear.
