Artarmon founders event puts practical introductions ahead of pitch theatre

A free Artarmon gathering next week is offering founders, investors, mentors and makers a more direct way to find collaborators and customers.

Sydney’s startup scene has no shortage of pitch nights, panels and networking calendars. A free Founders Connect gathering in Artarmon next week is taking a deliberately more practical line: help people identify who is in the room, what they are building and what sort of connection they need.

The event is scheduled for Thursday 22 October from 10.30am to 12.30pm at Galaxy Growth Hub on Pacific Highway. It is aimed at founders, investors, mentors, advisers and makers, with the organisers presenting it as a chance to meet potential co-founders, customers and supporters without requiring a formal pitch.

For early-stage operators, that can be a more useful proposition than a polished stage moment. A founder may need a first client, a specialist adviser, a technical collaborator or a clearer way to test an idea. Those needs do not always fit the usual networking script, particularly when a room is full of people trying to make the same short introduction.

The Artarmon session is part of NSW Small Business Month programming and is being promoted as an in-person networking event. Organisers say attendees will be able to signal what they are building, what help they are looking for and how they can contribute to others.

The founder angle is important for Sydney because the city’s startup support is spread across neighbourhoods, universities, coworking spaces and industry groups. Smaller sessions can make the ecosystem feel more navigable for people outside the CBD or outside the established investor circuit.

The event does not promise funding or a shortcut to growth. Its more credible value is making the next conversation easier to start. For a business owner or founder who has been working alone, a room designed around useful introductions may be a better first step than another presentation about entrepreneurship.
